Musk Oils

Musk & The Myth

Contrary to popular belief, not all musks are robust, overpowering and intense with heavy and dark notes such as leather and unforgiving deep earthy or dense woody aromas. Many of the musks of perfumery are in fact… exactly the opposite!

While they can be described as earthy, woody, animalistic and intoxicating, they are also comparable to the warm sensuous smell of one’s skin… but even better… subtle, light, powdery, woody, slightly sweaty yet slightly sweet, an aroma of neutral nothingness!  One of the best parts about musk in fragrances, is that they tend to wear long and adjust to each person’s body chemistry, hence, having aphrodisiac elements.

In perfumery, musks are balancing and lingering with depth and warmth.
They bring it all together, encompassing many individual notes to create a symphony of aroma.   
 
Some characteristics of musks are:
  • Slightly sweet, floral, powdery & fresh. A clean scent.
  • More intense and slightly “woodier” baring a metallic undertone, such as our Musk Al Tahara
  • Soapy clean aroma with fruity undertones, which magnificently replicates ambrette seed oil
  • Warm vanilla, woods and spices make an excellent accompaniment to sweet/floral ingredients heightening their intensity
